A RECHARGEABLE BIKE! THE ADVANTAGES OF THE ELECTRIC BIKE

The EAPC (electrically-assisted pedal cycle) is gradually appearing on our cycle lanes. It perfectly combines the need for an urban, fast and environmentally-friendly mode of transport with a sport that is great for your health!

HOW DOES EFFORTLESS CYCLING WORK?

With a bit of technology, pedalling becomes easy! A sensor records the pressure on the pedals and the change in tension on the chain. It transmits the information to the variator which calculates the power that needs to be sent by the motor to help the cyclist out, via a battery in the frame or under the pannier rack.

Most models have a box on the handlebars that allows you to control the level of assistance (weak, medium, strong). In this way you can maintain a constant speed despite changes in the slope or weather conditions.

For added safety, the motor is limited to 250w of power and automatically cuts out when you brake or exceed 25 km/h.

Obviously, the battery life varies depending on how you use the product. The batteries can last for more than 60 km if you use them in weak assistance mode. Some can even be recharged when going downhill and braking.

You can therefore get some fresh air on the road for a few hours without getting too tired. And if the rechargeable battery is empty, your legs can take over! Don’t forget that the EAPC is still a bike, and it should be used to give your muscles a workout.

It has been calculated that the effort needed for the EAPC is somewhere between walking and traditional cycling. This is why it is particularly recommended for daily use, and suitable for people getting back into sport gently or those with physical and respiratory difficulties.

A PERFECT URBAN BIKE

The EAPC can be legally used on cycle paths. The only danger lies in the jealous looks from other cyclists as you speed past them uphill… The panniers and bags are perfect for transporting your shopping and personal belongings, and you can attach a baby seat or trailer.

The electric bike is recommended in particular for short everyday journeys. You can easily cover the ten or twenty kilometres between home and your place of work. Thanks to the assisted pedalling, you won’t arrive out of breath and sweating for your morning meeting! Even a bit of drizzle won’t stop you: the motor kit is completely insulated and watertight. The lithium battery weighs less than three kilos and is easy to remove and recharge wherever you are.

The new folding models now allow you to experience this city bike in any situation. You can take it on the train or bus, before unfolding it and finishing your journey on two wheels.

HEALTHY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY TRAVEL

People often buy an EAPC instead of a second car, and rightly so! Ecologically speaking, the statistics speak for themselves: there are no CO2 emissions and you relieve traffic on busy roads. It does use electricity, but the level remains fairly low(around 1kwh per 100 km covered). Using a battery is still an issue, but lithium models are becoming increasingly easy to recycle.

Buying an electric bike may seem costly to begin with, but it pays for itself very quickly. Maintenance fees are non-existent, as the guarantee covers it for two years. Forget about the costs of your car or motorbike: no more petrol, parking or insurance to pay for. And after a few months of pedalling every day, your health will be greatly improved!
